Necessary Voices is the University of Bridgeport’s dynamic Arts and Ideas Lecture Series, designed to spark University-wide discussion about writing, the humanities, and the arts.

Since its inception in 2010, Necessary Voices has sponsored writers, poets, filmmakers, and commentators, including:

  • Connecticut poet laureates Dick Allen and Marilyn Nelson
  • Authors Eric D. Lehman, Steve Kemper, and Anne Farrow
  • Historian Christopher Collier
  • Critics Wendy Harding and Wilson Kimnach

Our Mission: to promote the primacy of the life of the mind in American higher education.

Necessary Voices occurs monthly at 4:30 p.m. in UB’s Arnold Bernhard Center Gallery, 84 Iranistan Avenue. Sponsored by the English Department, it is free and open to the public. See the sidebar for upcoming events.
