How do I apply for financial aid and are there any deadlines?
You MUST apply for financial aid every year by completing the FAFSA on or after October 1. Paper forms are available by contacting the Central Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243. You can complete your application electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov*. We strongly recommend that all students complete their aid application by February 15 (CT Residents deadline) and by March 1st for the UB priority deadline.
We will not have our taxes done until April, so I cannot complete the FAFSA. What do I do?
Starting with the 2017-18 FAFSA, which was available as of October 1, 2016, the tax information used will be from 2015. The 2018-19 FAFSA will use the tax information from 2016. Using the previous tax year information will now eliminate any delay in processing your FAFSA.
How much can I earn before I disqualify for aid?
There are no income cutoffs when determining a student’s financial aid eligibility. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining a family’s ability to pay beyond parental income such as household size, number of dependent children in college, family assets, and cost of the institution; so it is impossible to determine your eligibility based strictly on income. To know if you will qualify for financial aid you must apply.
When can I expect to hear about my financial aid package?
New applicants to the University of Bridgeport must be accepted for admission before an aid award letter will be sent to them. Once accepted an award packet will be sent for review. All students must have a processed FAFSA on file in order to receive an aid award letter. Returning students award letters will be available online on their WebAdvisor.
Can I expect to receive the same financial aid package throughout my studies?
You are REQUIRED to apply for financial aid each year. Sometimes family situation changes; another child attends college, a parent returns to the workforce, or a parent dies. For the most part if your family situation does not change from year to year your award letter will remain unchanged.
What if my family’s financial circumstances change drastically during a given year? What can be done? There are circumstances that will enable the financial aid office to adjust a student’s aid eligibility. These circumstances could include the following: job loss due to unemployment or illness, a one-time benefit that affected your federal adjusted gross income, separation or divorce, or unusual medical expenses. If conditions such as these occur during any of your four years at University of Bridgeport, please contact the financial aid office. Do not send any letters to the federal aid-processing center. They are not able to adjust your aid eligibility.
What is verification and why did I get chosen?
Verification is a process to confirm information you provided on the FAFSA. You may have been chosen because: 30% of our student population is randomly selected by the Department of Education, the FAFSA information submitted was incomplete or inconsistent or the FAFSA contains estimated information. How will my financial aid be disbursed to me?
All financial aid, with the exception of work study funds (funds MUST be earned), will be credited to your billing account in two equal disbursements: fall and spring. Once your charges have been paid (tuition, fees, room and board), any additional funds will be refunded to you to help pay for off-campus living costs, books, or personal expenses. Please enroll in the direct deposit option on your myUB portal to have funds deposited into your bank account. If a direct deposit is not completed, a refund check will be mailed to the student.
How can I receive summer aid, if needed?
You can specify on your signed returned award letter that you would need summer aid or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
I am an International student; do I qualify for Financial Aid?
Only United States Citizens, permanent residents or Eligible non-citizens are eligible to qualify for Federal Financial Aid. As an International Student you may qualify for a private loan with a co-worthy US citizen.

No student information can be released unless we have a completed Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form on file listing whom is entitled to receive that information.
Do I need to take medical insurance?
All students MUST have medical insurance that is compatible to the insurance offered by the University. If students have medical, insurance they can waive it by going online to www.universityhealthplans.com/ub and completing an insurance waiver form.
How will I receive my refund check?
Please enroll in the direct deposit option on your myUB portal (go to Financial Information, View Account/Make Payments, sign in again, click eRefunds) to have funds deposited into your bank account. If a direct deposit is not completed, a refund check will be mailed to the student.

How do I obtain my 1098T Tax Form?
At the end of January each year 1098T Tax Forms are mailed to the current address on file. Forms may also be obtained online at www.ecsi.net as of January 31st of each year. Our school code is “OZ”, to obtain a PIN, contact customer service at 1-866-428-1098. The representatives will help walk you through the log in process. NOTE: You must have a valid social security number to be eligible to receive a 1098T form.
